DIGITIZATION
Apologies
to those who consider this word to be incorrectly spelt.
The Oxford
Dictionary1 defines
Digitization as: "The action or process of digitizing; the conversion of analogue data (esp. in later use images, video, and text) into digital form".
Digitalization as: "The administration of digitalis or any of its constituent cardiac glycosides to a person or animal, esp. in such a way as to achieve and
maintain optimum blood levels of the drug. Also: the physiological condition resulting from this".
The process of converting images into digital form is therefore 'Digitization'. 'Digitalization' is a medical term.
Partha Dasgupta2 of the Computer Science and Engineering Department of Arizona State University describes the use of the word Digitalization when used
to describe the digitization of analog signals, as "yet another example of the creeping of new artifacts into our living language – A socio-cultural phenomenon
wrought from the mass scale digitization of everything digitizable".
