Chronicles: School Days – Longdown Infants Part 2, Coronation Day 1953

The photograph here shows the Longdown Infants celebrating the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth on 2 June 1953.

We are delighted that our intrepid investigator Michael Hardy has been able to put names to nearly all the faces in this picture.  There is no room here, sadly, to print all the names identified, but here are a few to whet your appetites:

The little girl playing the new Queen Elizabeth, sitting in the centre of the front row, is Denise Dunn.  The dark-haired boy on her right is Barry Cooper, and on her left is Samuel (not sure of his surname).  On either side of Denise, sitting on the floor, are Irene Armstrong (on her left, in a dark tunic) and Susan Corke, (cross legged, on her right).  Three faces behind Susan is Martin Flux, grinning widely.  The taller ‘bridesmaid’ inside the hoop is Gillian Banner, and holding one side of the hoop is Jacqueline Treloar, with John Corke standing on the other side.  Michael Hardy, who collected all this information, is on the front row, on the far left hand side of the picture, cross legged and wearing a dark jumper. Next to him is Michael Tyre, then Mike Wade, then Penny Harding, then Christine McFagin and then Jean Smith in the patterned cardigan.

We still have a few mystery faces, marked with an X on the second picture here.  We would really like to hear from you if you can fill in any of the gaps!
