Ventnor – Cradle of the Russian Revolution
During Ventnor Fringe, we will be repeating this very successful guided walk around Ventnor.
The walk, Ventnor – Cradle of the Russian Revolution, is led by author Stephan Roman and is based on Ventnor’s fascinating 19th century connection with some of the Russian radicals of the 1860s: writers and poets who opposed Russian imperialism and began to imagine an alternative, liberal Russia.
Stephan is the author of ‘Isle and Empires‘ (Medina Publishing 2022) and has worked with us to identify the areas in Ventnor and some of the houses where these visitors stayed. The walk traces our town as it was in the 1860s, still growing from little more than a fishing cove to what would become a fashionable destination for people from all over Britain and Europe.
