Pietro (Pete) Cortesi

Pietro (Pete) Cortesi. Pietro Cortesi, a shoemaker by trade, joined the Italian army in WW2, was captured and sent to a POW camp on the Isle of Wight, becoming cook for 53 POWs at Strathwell Park in Whitwell. After the war he married a local girl and set up a shoe shop in Ventnor. With Mr Wright of Ryde Surgical Stores he ran orthopaedic clinics at St Mary’s Hospital and on the mainland.  By Colin Beavis.
