Walmer Castle Inn

The Walmer Castle Inn was situated on the corner of South Street and West Street and was originally known as the Drum and Monkey.

Its name changed to the Walmer Castle when a Deal Lugger of the same name foundered in Ventnor Bay in March 1892 with the loss of three lives. An account says “A suitable memory was erected to the vessel and crew.” Was this the Public House?

George Kingswell was the Licencee for many years up to 1914. In the 1980s the pub closed and it is now a private house.
