Myrtle Bay – a postcard tale

Myrtle Bay  a postcard tale. By Michael Freeman.

Few people today know of Myrtle Bay in Ventnor, for this little bay appears on hardly any maps. But that wasn’t the case a hundred years ago, when it was featured on postcards, a popular way of keeping in touch with friends and relatives when on holiday.  The article includes a picture postcard with a view of Myrtle Bay, where Britannia’s Hut, the home of Olivia Parkes, is visible.  The card was sent to an address in Brixton, London; the couple who sent it were staying in Myrtle House on Ocean View Road, a lodging house at that time.

The article was first published in the South Wight Chronicle in October 2024.
