Richard Leitch

Richard Leitch moved to Ventnor for his health in 1889, arriving with a wife and young family at a property on the corner of Albert Street and Market Street, where he set up as a boot and shoe repairer, remaining in business for the rest of his working life.  He was one of several tradesmen, incluing ‘Tiger’ Sanders of  the Tiger Tea Stores on Pier Street, who moved to Ventnor as a potential cure for chronic health conditions. Leitch, who died aged 86, served as a member of the Town Council for over 20 years, and was chair of the Pier Committee.
